Attributed to Jan Dirksz. Both (Utrecht 1615-1652)

An Italianate river landscape with a cavalier beside a horse and a dog, with a figure in a boat and a fortification in the background.

Both is often lauded for his central role in the development of Italianate landscape painting within the 17th-century Netherlands. His approach was heavily shaped by his time in Rome, where he studied the landscapes of the Classical artist Claude Lorrain (c.1600-1682).
