An 18th Century American walnut occasional table, by Gilbert Ash (1717-1785), marked G. ASH N.Y. to one of the legs, 58cm high and 41cm wide
Ash was an American cabinetmaker known for producing outstanding Chippendale furniture from New York City. Because of his expert craftsmanship, his work was often considered of Philadelphia origin rather than New York. Although he was quite successful in the making of chairs, Ash produced an assortment of furniture for important clients, such as Sir William Johnson and members of the Van Rensselaer family.
